This dog is HUGE! The photo doesn't actually do it justice. I asekd the owner to sit there so I could use him for scale.

SOME FACTS:

Wolfhound can refer to various breeds of dogs that have been bred to hunt wolves or to established lines of wolf-dog hybrids that retain significant characteristics of wolves.

These gentle giants can reach the size of a small pony.

Standing on its hind legs, a wolfhound can reach up to 7 feet tall!

ConceptArt.org - topic/theme: Mounted Predator For Hunters

"A creature made by scientists by mixing genes of existing and extinct animals...there are also some mechanical/technical parts implemented in the predators organism. The predator must be able to be mounted and is carnivore, making him a living and very aggressive killer machine. We need to see something like a saddle, where the hunters can sit on, but you don't need to draw the hunter himself. The creatures full body must be seen."

New plants:
I bougt some other species of Lithops at the gardening store to fill up two spare pots that remained empty after the spider mite infestation losses. I cleaned the plants thoroughly before potting them because I do not want to possibly introduce new plant pests. The big round ones are amazing, I never saw them before.

Lithops are extremely succulent plants originating from the semi-deserts of southern Africa. Their plant body rests under ground, while on top they have transparent windows to let sunlight in for photosynthesis. A camouflage pattern on the windows lets them appear more or less like a pair of pebblestones, so hungry animals may hardly find them. I like them because they look like ornamented knobs or gemstones.

Only One Word For You 'Gorgeous' (DSC_0036)

The Bateleur is a colourful species with a very short tail (ecaudatus is Latin for tailless) which makes it unmistakable in flight. The adult male is 60 to 75 cm (24 to 30 in) long with a 175 cm (5.75 ft) wingspan. He has black plumage except for the chestnut mantle and tail, grey shoulders, and red facial skin, bill and legs.

The female is similar to the male except that she has grey rather than black secondary flight feathers. Immature birds are brown with white dappling and have greenish facial skin. It takes them seven or eight years to reach full maturity.

"Bateleur" is French for "tight-rope walker". This name describes the bird’s characteristic habit of tipping the ends of its wings when flying, as if catching its balance.

This is Indy. Of my housemate's two dogs, he's the calm one. I imagine part of that is due to his messed up leg (before Joel got him, he had a broken leg that didn't heal right, but now he's got a plate in there. Poor guy's got a permanent limp though.)

And now, due to the current state of my arm, I can identify with Indy quite a bit more ;-)

Happy Tails: Joselle

I wanted to give you an update on Joselle (a 2-year-old Harlequin -- she was named Honey when I meet her). I met Joselle at the PetSmart in Henrietta and adopted her Sept 3rd. It was love at first sight. I had to bring her home to meet my other bunny (at that time), a 3-month-old Lionhead named Diamant (German for Diamond). I had read that bunnies do better when they have a bunny partner to hang with...so Joselle was coming home to be a big sister to Dia.

Joselle is an absolute joy. It didn't take her long to come out of her shell, after being given up. Before we knew it, Joselle was running through the house and doing binkies 2 feet in the air. Her favorite thing is having her forehead pet. She is a treasure that I am so glad I found.

Seminole Canyon State Park, Val Verde County, Texas. One of the more remote state parks, tucked into the southwest corner of Texas about an hour's drive west of Del Rio.

This area has been inhabited since the very earliest days that humans set foot in North America, going back nearly 12,000 years - back during the last Ice Age when the land was more verdant with now-extinct animals still roaming the surrounding prairies and forest. But over the millenia, the climate changed to its current, arid desert landscape - and the Indians adapted.

All through these years, the local Indians drew pictograms all over the surrounding canyon walls and caves. In the dry climate, protected by overhanging rock walls, many of these pictograms survived through the ages. Some of the more famous sites, such as the Fate Bell and Panther Cave, are the feature attractions of Seminole Canyon, and can be visited by guided tour through the park.

However, I have not yet visited these sites - instead focusing on other areas of the park. On the first visit (March 9th, 2008), I arrived after the park had closed for the day. I walked along the short 'Windmill Trail', a small loop near the visitor's center. This trail leads down to a small year-round spring and the ruins of a water catchment system that was used by local settlers over the past hundred years.

The return trip (September 27, 2008) was much more fruitful - I chose to hike the Rio Grande River Trail, a six-mile out-and-back loop that leads to the far corner of the park, almost a stone's throw from Old Mexico. With recent rains it was fairly lively and green, with countless butterflies passing through on their annual migration. The trail starts alongside the original 'Loop Trail', the 1882 railroad alignment that was abandoned a decade later when a less strenuous route was forged and the Pecos River High Bridge was built.

The trail itself is pretty boring - a flat, featureless hike across a nondescript desert plain. But the main highlight of the hike quickly comes into view. There is a mile-long spur shooting off to the left called the Pressa Trail, which leads to an overlook looking down at a three-way intersection in the Seminole Canyon below. Here, the waters from Lake Amistad many miles away along the Rio Grande peter out; to the right, the waters are wide and deep, muddied from the recent rainstorms. To the left, the two forks of Seminole Canyon are mostly dry. From the top of the overlook, sheer cliffs lead staight down over a hundred feet to the waters below. The view is, well, *breathtaking* - and worth the trip.

Back on the main trail, a few miles later it comes to an abrupt end at the junction where Seminole Canyon merges with the Rio Grande. The location overlooks the Panther Cave pictograms, on the opposite shore far below, accessible only by boat. To the right, a few hundred yards away, are the hills of Mexico. Here, the water is deeper, the canyons steeper, the chasm wider. An impressive view, although not as amazing as the Pressa Trail overlook.

From here, it is a straight hike back along the south portion of the loop, my only companion a great horned toad trying to hide in the gravel of the trail. I would like to return to this park to take the guided tours, and there are other tours available nearby on private land to other pictogram sites as well. And I am told this park is also fabulous for bird watchers as well.

Nestlé is a multinational packaged food company founded and headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland. It resulted from a merger in 1905 between the Anglo-Swiss Milk Company for milk products established in 1866 by the Page Brothers in Cham, Switzerland and the Farine Lactée Henri Nestlé Company set up in 1867 by Henri Nestlé to provide an infant food product. Several of Nestlé's brands are globally renowned, which made the company a global market leader in many product lines, including milk, chocolate, confectionery, bottled water, coffee, ice cream, food seasoning and pet foods.[1] The company stock is listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange. Some of Nestlé's business practices have been considered unethical, especially the manner in which infant formula has been marketed in developing countries, which led to the Nestlé boycott from 1977.

Doggy purses are so easy to train!

Check out these animal movie images:

Doggy purses are so easy to train!
animal movie

I get asked all the time - what is it with you and canines? I've been known for my ability to speak to animals in a language that has never been deciphered by humans.
you love dog purses, you love attacking dogs, you love dancing with them, antagonizing them, you love being a wolf and you love biting other people when you're a wolf- what is it?

Luckily The Wolf Times called me for an interview! They wanted to speak to me about my amazing training abilities.

Tricia, what is your methodology?: WEll I beleive that the best way to get people - I mean dogs - to listen is inspiring fear!

Why do you think you are so good at training wild dogs?: Great Question! I treat dogs the way I wish I could treat everyone - I wish I could just say sit, and everyone would listen. In dog world, I am always the master. Unfortunately, with humans - there are others who also think they are masters of the world.

How can someone learn from your methods if they are unable to hire you until the end of this recession in 10 years?: My advice is that you always maintain eye contact with your animal. Lead by the nose, as Cesar Milan says - and don't afraid to show your love through fierce wolf eyes.

Does being an unprofessional dog trainer interfere with your career?: As a sociologist, I find that my field is so professionalized that it's a mental break to come home and spend time on an unprofessionalized field, such as dog training.

What's up the dog purse obsession? I think we are tactile beings and we love touch - but part of adult socialization says that we're not supposed to enjoy simple touch of furry things. We end up buying expensive goose feather pillows and comforters that are great to lay on - but we can't feel them! Also adult socialization tells us that we can't like little playful things - well as you can see the Japanese never bought that silly value - they love their manga and anime! So you know what I decided that I could also carry around dog purses as an adult - I love to touch and pet it - it just feels wonderful. I don't carry it to meetings or work - but you will find me during the weekends with my dog purse!

And what's up the wolf hat? Well the Wolf hat just makes me happy and it makes everyone else happy. If we are at a place in our friendship where I can bite you and you find it funny, then I would say you're pretty cool and we can chill together. Children to know how to play and imagine and so much of growing up in Western and chinese culture is about replacing imagination with rationality. I don't see what the two forms of thinking can't co-exist together. I can gauge my level of worldly engagement by how often I wear my wolf hat and bite people - if I'm around people I can bite - that means I'm around close non-judgemental friends. If I can wear my wolf hat a lot - that means my imagination is running around. Life is so much more fun when you see it through the eyes of an animal.
