Today, the place known to have the most maneating tigers is Sundarbans National Park in West Bengal, India. Here tigers are known to kill 30 people throughout the year. The forests contain mangrove trees which is situated on the Bay of Bengal. The coastal mangrove habitat itself is often implicated in tiger aggression, since the high tides wash away scent markings that help tigers orient themselves, and the high salinity of the water may cause increased agression among the tigers. On the other hand, prey species are rare in the region, and it is equally likely that the local tigers have simply learned humans are an available food item.
