Happy Tails: Cindy Lu

I am a pet mom in mourning right now that would like to share the story of my little dog girl, Cindy Lu.

I adopted Cindy from Lollypop Farm back in 2003. I had just lost my two old dogs w/n 6 months of each other, each aged 15 yrs. and 14 yrs., respectively. I couldn't stand the empty still house. It just wasn't a home without an animal in it.

So through the tears I walked down the aisles looking for someone to love. I wasn't looking for any kind of dog in particular, just someone I thought might not get picked as quick as a puppy or a young one would. I couldn't decide and just stood against a wall and watched all the dogs for awhile. In a kennel not too far from me were three older dogs all from the same house. All three were 9 yrs. and older, and it broke my heart! The two males seemed alert and active, but the one female didn't move too much and stared off into space. I thought, "She looks how I feel." So we had our "greeting," and I knew we would both be fine.

When I went to start my truck, Cindy put her paw on my arm and just looked at me with eyes that said "Thank you." She stole my heart from then on!
We were fast friends, and she went everywhere with me. I have moved to NC since for a job and travel back to NY to see family often, and Cindy always enjoyed our trips to come home and see "Grandma." We regularly walked all the nearby parks every week and took weekend trips.

In all our walks and trips people were constantly asking about her. What breed is she? How old is she? Where did you get her? In the six years I was lucky enough to share with her, I swear I said "shelter rescue" hundreds and hundreds of times. I realized quickly that we were meant to get the word out "Adopt a shelter dog please," and people listened intently because of her. She caught their attention and stole their hearts in a moment.

Cindy was the poster dog for shelters. The absolute most perfect little buddy there ever was. She had perfect house manners and loved everybody, even cats! She was a sponge for anything you taught her. She loved rides and walks *and peanut butter treats of any kind.*

So here is pic of Cindy Lu. I am going to miss my girl beyond belief. But I have wonderful happy memories of my bestest friend in the whole world and I just want to say "Thank You Lollypop Farm for all you do for the animals!"

It always make me a little sad to see animals in captivity, but I understand the educational part of it. I think they did a good job in general, with a certain amount of space available to the animals, including more "intimate" areas where they can rest. It's a beautiful place and very affordable.
