Mysore Zoo Elephant - Proud and Mighty
wildlife animals
Image by Suchana Seth
I took this photo in Mysore zoo. Although the zoo seemed well-maintained and the animals well cared for, I couldn't help thinking that all the animals looked forlorn - a look peculiar to captive animals that belong in the wild.
This elephant greeted us with a spirited trumpet.

I met John today while touring the Potter Park Zoo on Party for the Planet Day.
This is my 1st Stranger that I actually asked permission to take a picture & use for the 100 Strangers Project.
John really enjoys being a Docent for Potter Park Zoo & was at the entrance today with a Eastern Fox Snake which is Native to Michigan.
John has committed to donate a minimum of 50 hrs a year doing things like:

* Teaching zoo visitors about animals and conservation
* Leading educational tours
* Using educational animals in outreach education programs at schools and public events
* Conducting classes on and off zoo grounds
* Assist with enrichment for exhibit animals
* Interpret wildlife, ecosystems and conservation for visitors on Zoo grounds
* Participate in continuing education courses taught by Education Department staff, zoo curators and zookeepers

Lion tailed macaque
wildlife animals
Image by nidhingpoothully
According to the IUCN, only approximately 2,500 of these animals live scattered over several areas in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Lion-tailed Macaque ranks among the rarest and most threatened primates. Their range has become increasingly isolated and fragmented by the spread of agriculture and tea, coffee, teak and cinchona, construction of water reservoirs for irrigation and power generation, and human settlements to support such activities. They don't live, feed or travel through plantations. Destruction of their habitat and the fact that they avoid human proximity, has led to the drastic decrease of their population.
