Juvenile Cooper's Hawk I
This handsome young bird recently made an appearance on the side and in front of the house, unlike the first one who dropped in on the backyard for a little while. The neighbourhood crows were none too pleased about this. In fact, it was their ruckus that first drew my attention to the hawk's presence. He sat on the powerlines for a while doing his best to ignore the crows, who were shouting and occasionally swooping down at him. Eventually he moved on with a few crows in pursuit. Good luck out there little one.
Albino Alpaca
An albino Alpaca from the Nashville Zoo.
Alpacas have been domesticated for thousands of years. In fact, the Moche people of Northern Peru often used Alpaca images in their art. There are no wild alpacas. The closest living species are the wild Vicuña, also native to South America. Along with Camels and Llamas, the Alpaca are classified as Camelids. Larger than the wild Vicuña, the Alpaca is smaller than the other Camelid species.
Not all alpacas spit, but all are capable. Spit is somewhat euphemistic. While occasionally the projectile contains only air and a little saliva, they also commonly bring up acidic stomach contents (generally a green grassy mix) and project it onto their chosen target. Spitting is mostly reserved for other alpacas, but an alpaca will occasionally spit at humans that, for example, take away food.
For alpacas, spitting results in what is called "sour mouth." Sour mouth is characterized by a loose-hanging lower lip and a gaping mouth. This is caused by the stomach acids and unpleasant taste of the contents as they pass out of the mouth.
Individuals vary, but Alpacas generally make a humming sound. Hums are often comfort noises, letting the other alpacas know they are present and content. However, humming can take on many inflections and meanings, from a high-pitched, almost desperate, squealing, "MMMM!" or frantic question, "mmMMM!" when a mother is separated from her offspring (called a "cria,") to a questioning "Mmm?" when they are curious.
Thank you wikipedia.org for teaching me more about alpacas!

CAMP HUMPHREYS — Dog lovers here gathered for Pet Fest 2012 at the Humphreys Veterinary Clinic May 5. The event featured the paws walk, a pet show, face painting, an agility course, pet photos, informational booths, a military working dog demonstration and an awards ceremony.
“We are really happy with the turnout and excited to be a part of the Camp Humphreys community,” said Capt. Amy Carlson, officer in charge at the Humphreys vet clinic. “We have many events such as face painting, doggy treats and grooming. Humphreys has been great to us and we have received lots of support. We look forward to continuing events like this today.”
The American Red Cross participated in the event to offer knowledge about pet first aid, while the Osan Animal Shelter provided information on pet adoptions.
The dog show had categories such as owner/pet lookalike, best dressed, best pet trick and best in show. Rocko, owned by Blair Bogle, was the biggest winner of the day, winning first prizes in owner/pet lookalike and best in show categories.
“This is a great opportunity to hang out with dog lovers and people with the same hobbies,” said pet owner Tom Stout. “This event also provided information for people who are PCS’ing and have pets with them. This was a fun day.”

20110513 - provoking Oranjello - arm too tired from other 2 videos (41s) - MVI_3007
Image by Rev. Xanatos Satanicos Bombasticos (ClintJCL)
Oranjello is very different. He's not scared to attack anybody or anything, so we actually play fight a lot. I usually go until I'm scratched up. So he responds to said provocations rather quicky compared to Lemonjello. But in the theme of cats making liars out of their owners, he didn't attack me this time. Whereas LJ only attacks 1% of the time before my arm gets tired, OJ attacks 99% of the time before my arm gets tired. So this video is an unlikely outcome. My arm was way too tired from provoking Lemonjello for 3 minutes. Maybe OJ sensed this...

On August 17, 2010, I was sleeping out under the stars up in the forest near Bird Creek when a woof from my dog Rio woke me up... this little creature was really checking us out from a tree about 20-30 feet away. I had my camera laying beside me and got a few fuzzy shots, what can I say my eyes were fuzzy too at Dawn! he moved so quickly and it was such dim light still this was the best I could do. This is only the second time in my life I have seen one of these shy little creatures

Pine Marten
[North American: Martes americana]
[European: Martes martes]
"Pine martens are elusive nocturnal mammals which are found in pine forests and rocky scree areas. Suitable refuge sites include rocky crevices, disused squirrel nests (dreys) and holes in trees. Their fur is dark brown to black in colour with conspicuous creamy-orange throat patches. They have a pointed muzzle, prominent ears and a bushy tail. From head to tail adults are 64-81cm (25-32 inches) long . They weigh 1.3-1.7kg (2.8-3.7lb).
Feeding Pine martens are excellent climbers, and climb with agility in a squirrel-like manner from tree to tree as they search for food sources (such as birds, squirrels, rodents, rabbits, eggs, beetles, berries and even honey). They may also track down food on the ground where they are equally at home as in the trees.
Pine marten signs: Tracks and droppings indicate the presence of pine martens. Their foot prints are round and cat-like with five toes; claw prints are normally absent as they are only visible in soft ground. Droppings containing hair and feathers are deposited in regular latrines near to a boulder or log. "

There are unknown worlds of knowledge in brutes; and whenever you mark a horse, or a dog, with a peculiarly mild, calm, deep-seated eye, be sure he is an Aristotle or a Kant, tranquilly speculating upon the mysteries in man. No philosophers so thoroughly comprehend us as dogs and horses. They see through us at a glance. And after all, what is a horse but a species of four-footed dumb man, in a leathern overall, who happens to live upon oats, and toils for his masters, half-requited or abused, like the biped hewers of wood and drawers of water? But there is a touch of divinity even in brutes, and a special halo about a horse, that should forever exempt him from indignities. As for those majestic, magisterial truck-horses of the docks, I would as soon think of striking a judge on the bench, as to lay violent hand upon their holy hides. ~Herman Melville
