Phoebe, October 04, 2001, the day she first found us. Six weeks old.
She showed up with a mangy tail and hindquarters and a pathetic old flea collar around her neck. Subsequently, we also learned that she had worms after we took her to the vet for a check-over.
Other than it appeared that she wasn't well-cared-for, we don't know if she was abused in any way. But we made no attempt to find her previous owners because of the condition she was in. We've stopped feeling that it wasn't right to keep her based on how much she seemed to love our attention and being with us, and we with her. But I am wondering if it was selfish or ethically wrong?

Mayson is every bit as much of an animal lover as her big sister. This had an influence on her decision, at 8 years old, to become a vegetarian, she has never waivered on this and is also an animal rights activist. She is well informed on animal abuse issues, thank you PETA (not) I find her opinions to be somewhat radical but am very proud of her for standing up for what she believes in. Maysons hero has been Jane Goodall sp? for as long as i can remember.

Jasper was rescued from the streets of Dallas with another dog and brought to the shelter. His companion was adopted a long time ago. He still hopes that someone will come any day to take him home. He is a yellow Lab mix, about four to five years old who enjoys the company of people and is a wonderful friend. When you enter his kennel, he cuddles up to you, just hoping for a little stroke on the head. He is a quiet dog and very people-oriented. Smithfield is an area on the Northside of Dublin. Its focal point is a public square, formerly an open market, now officially called Smithfield Plaza, but known locally as Smithfield Square or Smithfield Market.
Notable landmarks include the Old Jameson Whiskey Distillery and the Observation Tower (now closed).
The area is known for the historical Horse market which is held on every first Sunday of the month. However, the city council is continuing with its efforts of trying to move the centuries-old horse market out of the area, with many new residents to the area, including those from the facing Smithfield Market apartments, especially uncomfortable with its atmosphere, noise, perceptions of animal abuse and neglect, and occasional bouts of violence amongst a minority of animal traders.
Although the Smithfield Horse Fair continues to draw heavy and sustained criticism from a wide range of sources, including An Garda Siochana, and the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), legal difficulties in closing down and/or moving away the market, coupled with its centuries-old heritage, have left the city council and the horse fair defenders locked in an ongoing battle without any clear resolution ahead.

Please don't ignore animal abuse behaviors. Research shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don't stop there - many of them move on their fellow humans. We must recognize that abuse to any living being is unacceptable and endangers everyone!

I'd like to throw the guy in jail who abandoned this poor horse to die in the street. Notice the harness sores on his chest and the skinned knees where he undoubtedly fell down under the whip. The bastard who turned this horse loose in the street nearly worked it to death.

Asia è un maremmano, è arrivata al rifugio dopo essere stata vittima di svariati maltrattamenti in un allevamento privato.
Asia avrebbe dovuto essere soppressa poiché considerata aggressiva a causa di tutte le violenze subite.
In data 8 ottobre 2009 ci è stato comunicato il risultato delle analisi effettuate sulla ciste di Asia. Con il cuore in mano vi comunichiamo che Asia ha un angiosarcoma.
Asia è uno degli animali del rifugio che più ha sofferto a causa della cattiveria umana, e ci è difficile accettare come anche il destino possa essere così crudele.
Tutto lo staff è vicino ad Asia, e come fin'ora fatto sarà coccolata, amata e protetta.

Asia is a Maremman Shephard, came to the shelter after being the victim of abuse in a variety of private farming.
On 8 October 2009 there was announced the results of tests carried out on the cyst Asia. With my heart in hand we inform you that Asia has an angiosarcoma.
Asia is one of the shelter animals that suffered most because of human wickedness, and it is difficult to accept the fate can be so cruel.
All the staff is close to Asia, and as done so far will be pampered, loved and protected.

Baby-Spider Pork:
Purtroppo conoscono tutti bene la fine di questi animali (tra l'altro molto intelligenti e puliti). Baby (soprannominata Spiderpork) è stata rifiutata dalla mamma, poiché aveva troppi piccoli. Perciò stava per essere uccisa e buttata nell'immondizia. Un nostro amico che si trovava sul posto, ha deciso di dargli il latte, ma poi non poteva più occuparsene. Per questo è arrivata a Casa Orizzonti.

Unfortunately, everyone knows the end of these animals (among other very smart and clean). Baby (nicknamed SpiderPork) was rejected by her mother, because she had too many children. So was about to be killed and thrown in the garbage. A friend of ours who was there, decided to give him milk, but then could not deal with it. For this she got at Casa Orizzonti.
