NY Humane Lobby Day 2010
Nearly 200 members and supporters of The Humane Society of the United States joined together on Wed, March 24th, 2010 in Albany for the New York State Humane Lobby Day.
The animal advocates met with 123 of the 212 state legislators on pending legislation to strengthen anti-animal fighting laws, prohibit the canned shoots of captive exotic animals, crack down on puppy mills, and protect farm animals from cruelty.
The event was co-sponsored by Farm Sanctuary, Humane Society of New York, and New York State Humane Association. Senator Toby Ann Stavisky received a humane legislator award to commend her support and dedication to animal protection issues, and spoke about the bill she sponsored to strenghten NY's anti-animal fighting laws. Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal spoke about the bills she sponsored to protect farm animals from cruelty.

Hanging Moles
Now, I don't meant to be controversial with these pictures, but this is what we saw whilst out walking. I've never seen this kind of thing before but got back home and did a quick search and found other instance of this happening elsewhere. I think the farmer or somebody who works on the farm has killed and hung out the moles like baubles on trees to show people how competent they are at catching moles. I personally don't think this is nice and should not be on show. Some will call this cruelty, others will think it's an old tradition. Have your own opinion but please keep this opinion to yourself. I'm not into animal cruelty. There must have been 15-30 moles hung out. Poor little things, I know they are considered a pest but it was a sad sight.

Camp Kindness, a day camp that strives to foster compassion towards all living creatures and a respect for our planet, completed a successful 2nd season! We hope to inspire children through gardening, craft activities, vegetarian cooking, and animal care and interaction, while providing a fun environment in which to learn. When children leave Camp Kindness they take many happy memories, new friends (human and animal), and an awareness of how they can make a difference in animals’ lives, their own lives, and in the environment. casanctuary.org/programs/camp-kindness/
